Colombia

After the great victory against Peru in “El Metropolitano” in the city of Barranquilla where Colombia won 2-0, the country and its team suffered a horrible and awful match in Montevideo, Uruguay, against that country´s soccer team.

On October 13th , in the famous “Estado Centenario”, the Colombian soccer team lost 3-0 against the powerful and now the top team in the eliminatory for the World Cup 2018 in Russia, the Uruguayan soccer team.

Many of our important and favorite players didn’t play against Uruguay like James and Zuñiga, among others who weren’t asked to play for “la selección” by the decision of Peckerman, our coach. We speculate that he is going to make his mind for the other games in order to improve our ranking on the table of the eliminatory because after the match in Montevideo, we went from being in third place to the sixth place. The opposite happened to Uruguay, who won both games and is now in first place on the list. We can´t deny that the three goals from: Godín (the captain) in the minute 35, Rolan in the minute 51 and from “ la joya” Hernandez in the minute 88 were amazing and totally well played goals, specially Hernandez’s goal, my personal favorite from the game, even though my heart was in pieces after Colombia lost.

Many journalists say that the game was totally a mess because James and other figures were missing. Even the ex-player “El Pibe” Valderrama said that the team was missing a captain and a leader in the defense, making reference to Yepes. Maybe he is right, from my point of view. I only saw a lot of kids and immature actions at the end of the game when we were clearly going to lose, and even Cuadrado was expelled at minute 90. What I am sure about is that we can´t say that we lost because James wasn’t there, Suarez wasn’t either in the Uruguayan team and they won. I think our team can do it well without focusing on names, but first they need to believe that they can and they definitely need to cool their minds when they are on the field and not start improvising in the games.

We hope to improve for the next two games we have in November against Argentina and Chile, very important and strong teams but I trust “mi selección”.

The “GOLEADA”

Colombian’s gymnastic team is very proud to announce that they are going to compete in the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship. The team is very excited to go to Glasgow, Scotland (United Kingdom), where the event will take place, and with high expectations to classify to the Rio de Janeiro’s Olympic Games of 2016.

The competition will take place at The SSE Hydro Arena, which has a capacity of 13,000 people and has been one of the most used arenas for concerts since last year’s inauguration. It will be from October twenty-third to November first, ten days in which almost five hundred gymnasts will compete among themselves for World titles. The most important days are the last six, because here is when they work as a team to represent each nation; here they give everything they have to win the classification for the Olympic Games of 2016.

From a few years ago until now, Colombia has been improving its international image, specifically in sports. The best example is Jossimar Calvo Moreno, who is going to be the principal figure in this event, because he has been practicing since he was very young and now is considered one of the best gymnasts in Colombia’s history. Since 2011 he has represented Colombia in many international competitions, where he has won gold and silver medals.

However, the most important part of the competition is not the individual performance but the one in group, where team work is crucial. There are two teams that will represent our country in Glasgow, the women’s team and the men’s team. The women’s team is the small one, because it is composed by only three girls: Marcela Sandoval, Yurany Avendaño and Gina Escobar. On the other hand, we have the big group, the men’s team, which is conformed by a total of seven men, Jhonny Muñoz, Andrés Martínez, Didier Lugo, Kristhoper Bohórquez, Carlos Calvo, Jorge Hugo Giraldo, and off course the principal figure, Jossimar.

They are really enthusiastic; they have high expectations of what they can achieve, so the rest of the country is very excited too. As Jossimar said: “Colombia has big possibilities to pass. We have prepared ourselves strictly, with the intention of increasing the level”, so the only thing left to do is to wish them very good luck and support these ten awesome gymnasts.
